The Port of New York and New Jersey achieved a monthly record for June.  Total volume for June 2018 was 625,366 TEUs (357,382 lifts) versus 584,606 TEUs (335,702 lifts) in June 2017, a 7.0% increase.  Import loads (TEUs) were up by 5.2% in June 2018 vs. June 2017 and export loads (TEUs) increased 6.0% in June 2018 vs. June 2017. On June 8th the Port of New York and New Jersey recognized the one-year anniversary of the raising of the Bayonne Bridge. The bridge now yields a navigational clearance of 215 feet resulting in the passage of larger ships, record cargo volume and economic growth for the Port. A year after completion, 107 vessels in excess of 9,500 TEUs (20-foot-long cargo containers, the shipping industry’s standardized measurement) have called on port terminals in Newark, Elizabeth and Bayonne, N.J. and in Staten Island. The Port of New York New Jersey hit another monthly record in April 2018. Total volume for the month of April was 551,117 TEUs. Although import loads were down by 2.1% in April 2018 vs. April 2017, most likely due to a late Chinese New Year, export loads increased 12.9% in April 2018 vs. April 2017. This is the third month in a row that export loads have increased by double digits when compared against 2017. Continuing the streak of strong growth, the Port of New York and New Jersey had its best March in its history. Total volume for March 2018 was 572,576 TEUs. The Port experienced a 12.7 percent growth from March 2017 volume of 508,270 TEUs. The Port saw significant growth in both imported and exported TEU loads.
