As a result of the recent news about Hanjin Shipping’s severe financial difficultly and operating status, the following procedures are currently in place in The Port of New York and New Jersey for Hanjin cargo and equipment. International Maritime Organization

The International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) SOLAS VI/2 regulation on verified gross mass (VGM) takes effect on Friday, July 1, 2016, at ports worldwide. All terminals in the Port of New York and New Jersey will provide scale weights for use, at the carrier’s discretion, for export containers arriving to a terminal by truck without a VGM. Under those conditions, a $10 fee may be assessed by the terminals to the ocean carrier. Port officials today announced cost reductions for use of the Port of New York and New Jersey. Effective May 1, 2016, the container charge for containers whose destination lies within 260 miles of the port has been reduced by 5.3 percent from $94.00 to $89.00 in all trades except in the Bermuda Trade, which retains its rate of $25.00.
