The Port of New York and New Jersey hit record volumes in both rail cargo and overall container throughput for November. Total volume for November 2019 reached 599,626 TEUs (338,857 lifts), a 2.7 percent increase over the 583,880 TEUs (331,242 lifts) posted the previous year. The increase brings the yearly total to 6,886,388 TEUs. The Port of New York and New Jersey set a new record in October 2019, handling 666,381 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units), a 1.2 percent increase over the previous October record of 658,708 TEUs set in 2018. The October 2019 numbers also represent the third largest cargo volume handled in any month in the history of the port.  The Port Authority’s ExpressRail system also set an October record, handling 57,722 containers, an increase of about 1 percent over the 57,197 containers handled during the previous October record month in 2018.
