October 14 Update: Latest Hanjin Procedures

The following update (as of October 14) concerns the latest procedures for handling Hanjin cargo and equipment at the Port of New York and New Jersey.  M/V Hanjin Switzerland The Hanjin Switzerland discharged some containers at Maher Terminals and shifted to GCT Bayonne this afternoon to complete the discharge. Once the vessel is complete at GCT, any imports discharged at GCT, that are fully released by US Customs, will be placed on barges and sent to Maher Terminals for delivery out the gate. Update on Procedures for Handling Hanjin Cargo and Equipment

The following  update concerns the latest procedures for handling Hanjin cargo and equipment at the Port of New York and New Jersey.  M/V Hanjin Switzerland The Hanjin Switzerland is expected to dock at GCT Bayonne on Wednesday afternoon October 13, 2016 for discharge. The cargo will then be barged to Maher Terminals where it will be made available for import delivery later in the week.  Cargo availability information can be found at https://apps.maherterminals.com/csp/homeAction.do?method=login and/or www.porttruckpass.com. Map for Goethals Bridge Traffic Diversion Released

During Columbus Day weekend, the Goethals Bridge will be closed overnight on Friday, October 7 into the following morning, with travel diverted the remainder of the three-day weekend on connecting roads on Staten Island, N.Y.  The lane closures and diversions, part of the Port Authority’s ongoing Goethals Bridge Replacement Project, will allow the demolition and replacement of the Travis Spur Rail Bridge that carries Conrail trains over Interstate 278 in Staten Island, immediately west of the Goethals Bridge toll plaza. Goethals Bridge to Close Overnight on Friday, 10/7

  The Goethals Bridge will be closed overnight on Friday, October 7 into the following morning for bridge replacement work. Travel delays are expected throughout the three-day weekend, especially during peak travel times. To avoid expected delays, drivers are encouraged to avoid the Goethals Bridge throughout the weekend, and consider using the Bayonne Bridge or Outerbridge Crossing as alternatives. The Bayonne Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing will remain fully open through Columbus Day weekend. Council on Port Performance Creates Workforce Development Team

On September 28, the Council on Port Performance (CPP) voted to create a Workforce Development Implementation Team (WDIT). As part of the Transportation, Logistics, and Distribution (TLD) industry, the CPP acknowledges that a workforce talent shortage could continue to get worse over time. Council members therefore agreed to collaborate with their host communities and port community stakeholders.
