Container Volumes Hit Highest August on Record, Second Highest Month Ever

August container volumes at the Port of New York and New Jersey reached 335,537 lifts (585,327 TEUs). This represents an increase of 2.0 percent over August 2015, the highest August on record, and the second highest month the port has ever logged. August volumes historically average 288,000 total lifts. But August 2016 saw 174,419 import containers loaded, an increase of 6.6 percent over the same category in August 2015. Barge Service Initiated Between PNCT and Red Hook

On Thursday, September 15, the first of approximately 100 containers of waste paper were loaded on a barge at the Red Hook Container Terminal (RHCT), Brooklyn. Later that day, the 300-foot-long, tug-pulled barge made the trip across the Upper Bay, through the Kill Van Kull, and up Newark Bay to Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) in 90 minutes. The cargo was then loaded onto Mediterranean Shipping Co.’s (MSC) 8,000 TEU ship, the MSC Anzu, on Sunday, September 18, and shipped to China. Updated Procedures Regarding Hanjin Cargo and Equipment

The following  update concerns the latest procedures for handling Hanjin cargo and equipment at the Port of New York and New Jersey.  M/V Hanjin Miami The Hanjin Miami is expected to dock at Maher Terminals on Thursday, September 22, 2016 for discharge.  Cargo availability information can be found at https://apps.maherterminals.com/csp/homeAction.do?method=login and/or www.porttruckpass.com. Please confirm availability before arranging delivery.  There will be no export containers loaded back onto the Hanjin Miami.  All bookings have been cancelled. Procedures Announcement Regarding Hanjin Cargo and Equipment

As a result of the recent news about Hanjin Shipping’s severe financial difficultly and operating status, the following procedures are currently in place in The Port of New York and New Jersey for Hanjin cargo and equipment. Maher Terminals All Hanjin import deliveries must be pre-paid in either cash or credit, if already established with Maher Terminals. With an eye toward sharing thought-provoking, vintage, and iconic photography, the Port of New York and New Jersey yesterday launched its @PortNYNJ account on Instagram.
