The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey together with New York Shipping Association held its annual year-end industry briefing for members of the Port of New York and New Jersey community on Thursday, December 3, 2015.
The event, held at Newark Liberty’s International Airport Marriott, welcomed more than 225 maritime transportation professionals representing all sectors of the industry: container, auto and bulk operators, ocean carriers, longshoremen, truckers, intermediaries, and warehouse operators.
Molly Campbell, the Port Authority’s Director of Port Commerce, offered brief welcoming remarks that celebrated the success of various recent programs. Highlights included:
- consistent record-breaking cargo volumes throughout 2015,
- the Port Authority Board of Commissioner’s recent directive to commence construction of an intermodal container transfer facility adjacent to GCT-Bayonne,
- a number of recent successes related to sustainability at the Port of New York and New Jersey, and
- various programs set into motion by the Council on Port Performance. The Council is a forum whose members represent all aspects of the port industry and collaborate to improve port productivity.
Ms. Campbell thanked members of the port community for their tireless participation in the port’s ongoing success, and for playing a major role in the continued growth and development of the port as a major source of local, regional and national economic activity.
She then turned the podium over to John Nardi, President of NYSA, who echoed the Port Authority’s optimism for a banner year in 2016.
