The Port of New York and New Jersey finished 2023 with volume totals that exceeded 2019’s pre-COVID numbers by 4.4 percent. December’s total volume added to the positive numbers, reaching 633,925 TEUs (351,402 containers), a 3.4 percent increase compared to the 613,011 TEUs (341,108 containers) recorded in December 2022. In November 2023, the Port of New York and New Jersey moved 644,439 TEUs (355,788 containers). This number represents a 10.9 percent decrease over last year’s November figure of 723,069 TEUs (400,202 containers) and brings the port’s year-through November total to 7,176,126 TEUs (3,976,774 containers).  Imports also fell slightly (7.2 percent) in November compared to the previous year, totaling 324,559 TEUs (179,757 containers) versus 349,658 TEUs (194,678 containers). In October, the Port of New York and New Jersey recorded its highest total monthly volume of 2023, moving 742,571 TEUs (409,680 containers).
