In November, the Port of New York and New Jersey moved a total of 730,352 TEUs (398,131 containers), a 1.6 percent increase from the previous year’s 718,826 TEUs (394,649 containers). This number brings our year-through-November total to 8,245,060 TEUs (4,524,265 containers).
November saw 509,124 loaded TEUs moved, maintaining its position as the nation’s second-busiest gateway for this measurement. The port has held this status over the first 11 months of the year, moving a total of 5,520,444 loaded TEUs from January through November.

Imports (TEUs) rose by 8.2 percent in November compared to the previous year. A total of 382,286 TEUs (209,404 containers) moved through the Port of New York and New Jersey in November, compared to 353,366 TEUs (194,737 containers) in November 2024. From January through November, imports reached 4,184,052 TEUs (2,304,684 containers), a 2.3 percent increase compared to the previous year’s 4,091,049 TEUs (2,261,927 containers).
The Port of New York and New Jersey exported 126,838 TEUs (67,752 containers) in November, representing a 2.7 percent increase from the previous year’s 123,530 TEUs (65,982 containers). From January through November, a total of 1,336,394 TEUs (715,640 containers) were exported, a 7.6 percent increase from the 1,241,936 TEUs (666,163 containers) recorded in the same period of 2024.
Export empties decreased by 8.7 percent in November 2025, totaling 219,493 TEUs compared to 240,447 TEUs in November 2024. A total of 2,706,995 TEUs export empties moved through the Port of New York and New Jersey from January through November, a 2 percent increase from the 2,655,011 TEUs recorded in the same period of 2024. Import empties for the period of January through November fell by 20.4 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
Rail volume rose by 4.4 percent from the previous year’s November figure, totaling 59,129 containers in November 2025. From January through November, the total rail volume was 12.4 percent higher than in the same period in 2024.
A total of 29,327 autos moved through the Port of New York and New Jersey in November, a 17.4 percent decrease compared to November 2024. Auto volume for January through November 2025 was 12 percent less than in the same period in 2024.
