Cargo volumes in November at the Port of New York and New Jersey set a new monthly record. The Port handled 302,688 containers (527,974 TEUs), a 5.5 percent increase over November 2015, which was the previous record November. Historically, November cargo volumes average 256,600 containers. Import loads for November 2016 (156,003 containers) rose 8.9 percent compared to November 2015. Export loads for November 2016 (63,984 containers) fell 2.6 percent from November 2015, while export empties rose by 5.8 percent (81,223 containers). Bayonne, NJ – GCT USA and the Port Authority today broke ground for the ExpressRail Port Jersey facility (“Greenville Yard”). The facility will be a major ship-to-rail port project located directly adjacent to the recently expanded, state-of-the-art GCT Bayonne container terminal. This project will complete the agency’s more than $600 million initiative that establishes direct access to on-dock or near-dock rail service for all of its major marine terminals. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has just advised The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey of a planned closure of westbound I-80, between exits 299 and 298 (about 12 miles west of the Delaware Water Gap Bridge). The closure will be in effect today, Wednesday, December 14, from 10 am to 2 pm. The New Jersey-bound lanes of the Goethals Bridge will close from 10 p.m. Thursday, December 8 until 5 a.m. Friday, December 9 for emergency repairs to two drainage catch basins on the Staten Island side of the bridge. The Bayonne Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing will remain open Thursday as alternate routes.
