Team Increases Focus on TLD-Sector Job Opportunities

The Port of NY & NJ supports approximately 400,000 jobs in the Transportation, Logistics, and Distribution (TLD) sector. The local TLD industry is responsible for the availability of goods reaching 44 million people living within 4 hours driving distance from the Port of NY & NJ.

Since its launch last year, the Workforce Development Implementation Team (WDIT) of the Council on Port Performance (CPP) has raised awareness of TLD and the critical role it plays in the success of the NY & NJ region, home to the largest port on the East Coast.

The team’s initiatives include:

  • Pursuing Education-Related Objectives. The WDIT works with a network of local academic institutions at the high school and college levels to introduce students to the diversity of TLD career opportunities at and near the Port of NY & NJ.
  • Hosting a TLD Jobs Group on LinkedIn. A recognized business and employment-oriented social networking service, LinkedIn is free to join and accessible via websites and mobile apps. The TLD Jobs Group is open to all TLD job seekers and HR professionals who wish to post and network content relative to the group’s agenda.   • Developing a TLD Job Bank. In the planning and conceptual stage, the TLD Job Bank would connect employers with qualified TLD job seekers.
  • Hosting TLD Expo. The WDIT is planning a TLD Expo for 2018 at the Port of NY & NJ. The expo will increase awareness of possible job opportunities within the TLD network while helping to pair employers with prospective TLD employees.
