FAPS Receives Auto Industry Award

At a ceremony held in New Orleans last month, FAPS received the honor of “Vehicle Processing Centre” of the year from the Automotive Global Awards North America Conference. Founded as Foreign Automotive Preparation Service, FAPS, Inc. is a third generation, family held company. This pre-delivery company has provided automotive import/export preparation services for 60 years as a tenant of the Port Newark Marine Terminal. They currently employ over 200 skilled workers at its more than 120-acre terminal complex. Governor Christie Announces Bayonne Bridge “Raise the Roadway” Ahead of Schedule

Continuing to build on his commitment to growing New Jersey’s economy and making the state a premier business destination, Governor Chris Christie today announced that as of June 30, the $1.6 billion raising of the Bayonne Bridge roadway will allow the world’s ultra-large, environmentally friendly container vessels to pass beneath the span, gaining access to the Ports of Newark, Elizabeth, and Staten Island. Port of NY & NJ Welcomes Inaugural Sailing of Ocean Alliance

The COSCO Vietnam, the first vessel in the Ocean Alliance’s new partnership to call the Port of New York and New Jersey, arrived at Maher Terminals at the Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal on Monday, April 17. Members of the Ocean Alliance include China COSCO SHIPPING, CMA CGM, Evergreen Line, and OOCL. The 8,500 TEU vessel is dedicated to the Trans Atlantic Europe (TAE) service. New Port Environmental Projects Highlight Earth Day 2017

To mark this weekend’s celebration of Earth Day 2017, the Port Authority today announced two new environmental initiatives to supplement several existing programs to further reduce emissions and improve air quality around the Port of New York and New Jersey. Under one initiative, the agency will launch a demonstration project with GCT New York and APM Terminals to retrofit two yard tractors for each facility with auto stop-start hybrid technology. Yard tractors account for the largest number of on-terminal vehicles in the port and contribute to 33 percent of all cargo-handling equipment emissions. The Port of New York and New Jersey is developing a Port Master Plan (PMP). The PMP will guide the port’s growth and development through a holistic and dynamic decision-making process aimed at continuing to enhance the port’s position as the premier North American East Coast gateway over the next 30 years.
