The Port of New York New Jersey hit another monthly record in April 2018. Total volume for the month of April was 551,117 TEUs. Although import loads were down by 2.1% in April 2018 vs. April 2017, most likely due to a late Chinese New Year, export loads increased 12.9% in April 2018 vs. April 2017. Continuing the streak of strong growth, the Port of New York and New Jersey had its best March in its history. Total volume for March 2018 was 572,576 TEUs. The Port experienced a 12.7 percent growth from March 2017 volume of 508,270 TEUs. The Port saw significant growth in both imported and exported TEU loads. On Monday, February 05, 2018, the Port of New York and New Jersey announced that cargo volumes for 2017 had shattered the existing annual cargo volume record set in 2015 by 5.3 percent. Specifically, during 2017, the port handled 6,710,817 TEUs compared to 6,371,720 TEUs handled in 2015. Cargo tallies continued their growth trend at the Port of New York and New Jersey in November. Year-to-date over 2016, November 2017 showed a 7.7 overall growth for the port in terms of TEUs handled (6,166,851 over 5,723,821). This growth broke down to: a 6.3 percent increase in import TEU loads (3,122,103 over 2,937,980); a 4 percent increase in export TEUs loads (1,294,229 over 1,244,555); and a 5.6 percent increase in total TEU loads (4,416,332 over 4,182,535).
