Hanjin Czech

Hanjin Czech Makes Maiden Voyage

The Hanjin Czech arrived on its maiden voyage calling at Maher Terminals on Tuesday, December 8. To salute this event, Port Authority officials presented a commemorative plaque to the ship’s Captain, Jun Inbom, along with representatives of Maher Terminals and Hanjin Shipping.  The new vessel is dedicated to the “AW8” string, which is operated in a Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA), along with Hanjin’s four partners: COSCO, K-Line, Yang Ming, and Evergreen (CKYHE). The Czech was launched in November this year from Hanjin’s shipbuilding subsidiary located in Subic, Philippines. Port Authority Adopts $6.5 Billion 2016 Budget

On December 10, the Board of Commissioners for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey approved the agency’s operating and capital budget for fiscal year 2016, worth a combined $6.5 billion. Allocations include $3 billion for the agency’s Operating Budget and $3.5 billion for its Capital Budget. Port Authority and New York Shipping Association Host Year End Industry Briefing

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey together with New York Shipping Association held its annual year-end industry briefing for members of the Port of New York and New Jersey community on Thursday, December 3, 2015. The event, held at Newark Liberty’s International Airport Marriott, welcomed more than 225 maritime transportation professionals representing all sectors of the industry: container, auto and bulk operators, ocean carriers, longshoremen, truckers, intermediaries, and warehouse operators. October Cargo Volumes Remain Strong

Cargo volumes at the Port of New York and New Jersey (PONYNJ) achieved year-over-year growth for the 13th consecutive month in October 2015. October container moves totaled 311,992 units, a 1.7 percent increase over October 2014. October tallies put the port’s year-to-date, container numbers ahead of 2014 by 11 percent, which amounts to an additional 307,373 container units. On the import side, loads for the month totaled 154,667 lifts. While down 1.7 percent from October 2014, import loads remain ahead of 2014 by 9.8 percent. Port Authority Announces Increase in Truck Toll Reimbursement Program at GCT-NY

Beginning January 1, 2016, the reimbursement for trucks calling at Global Container Terminals-New York (GCT-NY) will increase to $11.14 per axle. Undertaken in September 2013, the Toll Reimbursement Program fosters economic parity at the Port of New York and New Jersey. The reimbursements help to offset expenses not paid by trucks calling at other marine terminals where crossing a bridge and incurring subsequent tolls is unnecessary. As of December 6, 2015, the cost for a truck using E-ZPass to cross a Port Authority bridge rose to $18/axle.
