August 2017 Logs Highest Volumes in Port of NY & NJ History for Overall Monthly and Rail

August 2017 became the best month for cargo volumes in the long and busy history of the Port of New York and New Jersey. The monthly total of 361,565 lifts (631,404 TEUs) crushed the previous monthly high of 339, 601 lifts (588,918 TEUs) logged in July 2015. August 2017 also fared 7.8% better than the previous  year’s volumes (August 2016). At close of August 2017, the port beat 2016 overall lifts by 6.2%. Container Volumes Hit Highest August on Record, Second Highest Month Ever

August container volumes at the Port of New York and New Jersey reached 335,537 lifts (585,327 TEUs). This represents an increase of 2.0 percent over August 2015, the highest August on record, and the second highest month the port has ever logged. August volumes historically average 288,000 total lifts. But August 2016 saw 174,419 import containers loaded, an increase of 6.6 percent over the same category in August 2015. February Posts Container, Rail, and Auto Growth at Port NY & NJ

Container lifts for February 2016 were 12.4 percent better than those logged in February 2015 according to statistics recently released by the Port of New York and New Jersey. The 287,197 lifts executed in February 2016 also represent a new monthly record for the port. Loaded import containers totaled 148,048 units for a 7.4 percent increase over totals for February 2015. Loaded export containers totaled 61,278 units for an increase of 6.6 percent, while export empty containers totaled 76,037 units, representing an increase of 27.8 percent compared to February 2015. October Cargo Volumes Remain Strong

Cargo volumes at the Port of New York and New Jersey (PONYNJ) achieved year-over-year growth for the 13th consecutive month in October 2015. October container moves totaled 311,992 units, a 1.7 percent increase over October 2014. October tallies put the port’s year-to-date, container numbers ahead of 2014 by 11 percent, which amounts to an additional 307,373 container units.
