Beginning on Wednesday, January 27, the Goethals Bridge will institute traffic holds in both directions from 4:30 to 5 a.m., approximately three days per week. The traffic holds, which are expected to continue for about a year, are necessary to accommodate the safe transfer of concrete girders across the Goethals Bridge as part of the Goethals Bridge Replacement Project. The Bayonne Bridge will open at 4:30 a.m. on affected days to provide an alternate route for Goethals Bridge drivers. The Outerbridge Crossing is another alternate route. Port Authority operations and our marine terminal partners have been working around the clock to remove the record 28 inches of snow at the Port of NY & NJ. Based on a conference call with the terminal operators and all support services (i.e. trucking, chassis, rail etc.), Global Container Terminal (Staten Island) and Red Hook Container Terminal (Newark and Brooklyn) will resume operations and be open on Tuesday, January 26th at 8:00 AM. All marine terminals at the Port of New York and New Jersey will be closed on Monday, January 25. In accordance with the Winter Plan (http://www.panynj.gov/port/weather-plan.html), free time will be extended and per diems will be waved for Monday. An update will follow around noon on Monday, 1/25/16, regarding the status of operations. Please, no overnight queuing on the public roadways and alert your truckers that they should plan on staggering their arrival when the port reopens. Hanjin Czech

The Hanjin Czech arrived on its maiden voyage calling at Maher Terminals on Tuesday, December 8. To salute this event, Port Authority officials presented a commemorative plaque to the ship’s Captain, Jun Inbom, along with representatives of Maher Terminals and Hanjin Shipping.  The new vessel is dedicated to the “AW8” string, which is operated in a Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA), along with Hanjin’s four partners: COSCO, K-Line, Yang Ming, and Evergreen (CKYHE). The Czech was launched in November this year from Hanjin’s shipbuilding subsidiary located in Subic, Philippines.
