Container lifts for September 2015 topped lifts from the same month, 2014 by 13.4 percent according to stats just released by the Port of New York and New Jersey. At 325,534 lifts, 2015 now holds the port’s new record for volume by month in September. Year-to-date, the port stands ahead of 2014 volumes by 12.2 percent. With 163,597 lifts, September import loads outperformed the same month, 2014 by 12.4 percent. Year-to-date, import loads are running 11.2 percent in front of 2014. The Port Authority launched its 2015 Regional Truck Replacement Program (2015 RTRP) on October 19. The $2 million program continues the agency’s initiative to provide truck owners with financial incentives to replace their older vehicles with cleaner and safer units. This, in turn, will produce significant environmental benefits at the port. Trade statistics shared by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s Port Commerce Department show two records broken in August 2015.   Overall container lifts for that month hit 329,057, up 7.9 percent from August 2014. The August 2015 numbers represent a new monthly record for container lifts at the Port of New York and New Jersey. Rail lifts also had their best August ever. A new economic impact study concluded that the economic value of the Port of New York and New Jersey has grown, and this bodes well for the region. The report cites that jobs directly associated with port activity have increased by more than 13 percent since 2012. Personal and business incomes as well as federal, state, and local tax revenues associated with the port have also grown. On Wednesday, September 2, Port Authority staff hosted the Port of Tokyo’s Metropolitan Trade Mission for the purpose of renewing our sister port agreement on the 35th anniversary of its original execution. The Mission included 14 members and was led by Takashi Takeichi, Director General of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s Bureau of Port and Harbor.
