Cross Harbor Freight Program Enters Second Review Phase

On Friday, February 2nd, the Port Authority announced its award of a $23.7 million agreement to Cross Harbor Partners, a joint venture of STV Incorporated/AKRF Inc., to undertake the Tier II Environmental Impact Statement for the Cross Harbor Freight Program at the Port of New York and New Jersey. Port NY & NJ Sets Cargo Volume Record for 2017

On Monday, February 05, 2018, the Port of New York and New Jersey announced that cargo volumes for 2017 had shattered the existing annual cargo volume record set in 2015 by 5.3 percent. Specifically, during 2017, the port handled 6,710,817 TEUs compared to 6,371,720 TEUs handled in 2015. The record volumes were attributed partially to completion of the Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Project in June 2017. NYCDOT Changes Overweight Truck Route Traffic Rule for Staten Island

Effective Saturday, January 20, 2018, semi-trailers that qualify as: up to 73-1/2 feet in total length, not exceeding a total weight of 90,000 pounds, and carrying sealed shipping containers will be allowed to utilize a specified route without daily over-dimensional permits from NYCDOT, as was previously required. This rule provides a clearly defined, safe route for drivers to haul sealed containers to and from Global Container Terminal New York (GCTNY). Notice Regarding Dwell Time on Rail Containers

November Continues Trend in Cargo Growth at Port NY & NJ

Cargo tallies continued their growth trend at the Port of New York and New Jersey in November. Year-to-date over 2016, November 2017 showed a 7.7 overall growth for the port in terms of TEUs handled (6,166,851 over 5,723,821). This growth broke down to: a 6.3 percent increase in import TEU loads (3,122,103 over 2,937,980); a 4 percent increase in export TEUs loads (1,294,229 over 1,244,555); and a 5.6 percent increase in total TEU loads (4,416,332 over 4,182,535).
