Truckers should be aware that lower-level eastbound lanes of the George Washington Bridge (GWB) will close during overnight hours next week to facilitate ongoing pavement repairs.
These closures could result in increased congestion on the GWB’s upper levels. To maintain efficiency, truckers should observe the following lower level closure details.
Lower-level eastbound lanes will remain open this weekend for the Passover observance from 5 a.m. Friday, April 22 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 25.
Lower-level eastbound lanes will experience closures over the following week as follows:
- On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights next week (April 25-28). Lower-level eastbound lanes will close from 9 p.m. each night through 5 a.m. the following morning.
- On Friday (April 29). Lower-level eastbound lanes will close from 10 p.m. through 8 a.m. Saturday, April 30.
- From Saturday/Sunday (April 30, May 1). Lower-level eastbound lanes will close again from 11:59 p.m. Saturday through 8 a.m. Sunday, May 1.
Again, all eastbound traffic will be limited to the bridge’s upper level during the hours noted above. Truckers should note these closure dates and plan accordingly.
Overnight closures of the GWB’s lower-level eastbound lanes are expected to continue each week – depending on weather, holidays and other conditions – until mid-November.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey scheduled these closures in conjunction with other regional agencies to minimize traffic impacts.
