At their meeting on June 25, 2015, the Port Authority Board of Commissioners approved a $65.1 million project to overhaul signage for the George Washington Bridge. The action entails upgrading and replacing the current Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) with variable message signs, vehicle detectors, traffic cameras, travel time readers, and a weather information station that connects to the TRANSCOM network. “Portfolio,” a new blog by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, was launched on April 28 and will spotlight the largely unknown but critical role that transportation infrastructure plays in the region. The blog, available at portfolio.panynj.gov, will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the Port Authority’s airports, six tunnels and bridges, port facilities, and the PATH rail system to enhance the public’s general knowledge, interest, and understanding about Port Authority facilities.
