The Port of New York and New Jersey welcomed one of the world’s most advanced, High-Efficient Ro-Ro (HERO) ships, the M/V Titus, on Tuesday, July 31, when it completed its maiden voyage from Asia to Port Newark’s Berth 13. The new M/V Titus can handle a wider range of cargo types with increased capacity and optimized fuel efficiency, reducing its energy consumption and emissions. Total volume for May 2018 was 593,625 TEUs (340,890 lifts) versus 565,052 TEUs (325,373 lifts) in May 2017, yielding a 5.1% increase. The Port of New York New Jersey hit another monthly record in April 2018. Total volume for the month of April was 551,117 TEUs. Although import loads were down by 2.1% in April 2018 vs. April 2017, most likely due to a late Chinese New Year, export loads increased 12.9% in April 2018 vs. April 2017. This is the third month in a row that export loads have increased by double digits when compared against 2017. The Port experienced a 12.7 percent growth from March 2017 volume of 508,270 TEUs. The Port saw significant growth in both imported and exported TEU loads.
