The Port of New York and New Jersey achieved an all-time monthly record in August. Monthly total volume for August 2019 was 679,585 TEUs (385,288 lifts), a 4.3 percent increase over August 2018, which posted 651,752 TEUs (371,710 lifts). The record-breaking August numbers brought the total volume for the year to 4,995,420 TEUs. Import loads (TEUs) rose by 2.7 percent in August 2019 versus the previous year, totaling 342,541 TEUs (193,116 lifts) versus 333,567 TEUs (189,383 lifts) in August 2018. On Friday, July 19, Port Newark warehouse tenant Best Transportation delivered a 14,000-pound container using a zero-emission electric drayage truck, becoming the first trucking company to move a container from Maher Terminals of the Port of New York and New Jersey by using an electric vehicle.
