Cargo volume at the Port of New York and New Jersey continued to rise for the 4th month in a row, with total volume for November 2020 at 738,885 TEUs (408,482 containers), up 23.2 percent compared to the same month in 2019 when the seaport handled 599,626 TEUs (338,857 containers). With the latest data available for November, the seaport moved a total of 6,876,744 TEUs (3,860,612 containers) so far in 2020.
Imports rose by 27.7 percent in November totaling 386,219 TEUs (214,397 containers), which was up from 302,460 TEUs (171,273 containers) in November 2019. From January through November 2020, imports at the Port of New York and New Jersey reached 3,585,080 TEUs (2,022,157 containers) versus 3,497,971 TEUs (1,989,714 containers) in the same period of 2019, a 2.5 percent increase.
Exports for November totaled 352,666 TEUs (194,085 containers) compared with 297,166 TEUs (167,584 containers) in November 2019, an 18.7 percent increase in TEU volume. From January through November 2020, exports reached 3,291,664 TEUs (1,845,653 containers) compared to 3,388,417 TEUs (1,921,303 containers) in the same period of 2019, a 2.9 percent decrease.
Intermodal volume continued to be strong through the seaport, with rail volume up 16.9 percent from the previous November, totaling 63,227 containers for November 2020. From January through November 2020, rail volume was 5.6 percent higher than in the same period in 2019.
Autos moved through the Port of New York and New Jersey totaled 47,531 in November, an increase of 9.1 percent compared to November 2019.
