NYCDOT Changes Overweight Truck Route Traffic Rule for Staten Island

Effective Saturday, January 20, 2018, semi-trailers that qualify as: up to 73-1/2 feet in total length, not exceeding a total weight of 90,000 pounds, and carrying sealed shipping containers will be allowed to utilize a specified route without daily over-dimensional permits from NYCDOT, as was previously required. This rule provides a clearly defined, safe route for drivers to haul sealed containers to and from Global Container Terminal New York (GCTNY). New York-Bound Goethals Bridge Lanes to Close Monday (4/17/17) Overnight for Emergency Repairs

The eastbound lanes of the Goethals Bridge will be closed Monday, April 17, starting at 10 p.m. for emergency road repairs. The bridge will reopen Tuesday, April 18, at 5 a.m. The westbound lanes will remain open throughout this period. The closure is required to address pavement deterioration at several locations on the eastbound lanes of the bridge. Traffic Advisory: Goethals Bridge Westbound Lanes to Close Thursday Night, 12/8/16

The New Jersey-bound lanes of the Goethals Bridge will close from 10 p.m. Thursday, December 8 until 5 a.m. Friday, December 9 for emergency repairs to two drainage catch basins on the Staten Island side of the bridge. The Bayonne Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing will remain open Thursday as alternate routes. Traffic Advisory: N.J. Turnpike Exit 13 Closing Temporarily to Southbound Traffic

Map for Goethals Bridge Traffic Diversion Released

During Columbus Day weekend, the Goethals Bridge will be closed overnight on Friday, October 7 into the following morning, with travel diverted the remainder of the three-day weekend on connecting roads on Staten Island, N.Y.  The lane closures and diversions, part of the Port Authority’s ongoing Goethals Bridge Replacement Project, will allow the demolition and replacement of the Travis Spur Rail Bridge that carries Conrail trains over Interstate 278 in Staten Island, immediately west of the Goethals Bridge toll plaza.
