Port NY & NJ Sets Cargo Volume Record for 2017

On Monday, February 05, 2018, the Port of New York and New Jersey announced that cargo volumes for 2017 had shattered the existing annual cargo volume record set in 2015 by 5.3 percent. Specifically, during 2017, the port handled 6,710,817 TEUs compared to 6,371,720 TEUs handled in 2015. The record volumes were attributed partially to completion of the Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Project in June 2017. Port of NY & NJ Welcomes CMA CGM T. Roosevelt, Largest Container Vessel Ever to Call Berths

Today the Port of New York and New Jersey marked the arrival of the CMA CGM Theodore Roosevelt, which passed under the newly raised Bayonne Bridge at approximately 9:30 a.m. to make berth at APM Terminals in Elizabeth, New Jersey. With a total cargo capacity of 14,414 TEUs, the Theodore Roosevelt is the largest container vessel ever to call the port’s berths. Port of NY & NY Welcomes First Vessel Over 13,000 TEUs

On Monday, July 17, Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) of Hong Kong and Salt Lake City, Utah sailed the largest container ship to date into the Port of New York and New Jersey. The OOCL Berlin sailed into Newark Bay to dock at Maher Terminals Berth 68. A 13,208 TEU vessel, the Berlin measures longer than 1,200 feet (or the equivalent of 4 football fields) and is the largest vessel to transit under the newly elevated Bayonne Bridge roadway. To date, the longest ships to call New York and New Jersey terminals have been 1,000 feet long.
