January volumes rose 7.8 percent over the previous year while February volumes increased by 13.8 percent. TIANJIN

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey presented a commemorative plaque to Captain I. Wlodarczyk of the Zim Tianjin. To date, the Tianjin is the largest container vessel to call the Port of New York and New Jersey. The Tianjin called at Global GCT Bayonne and discharged cargo in it first rotation through the port. Zim Lines has once again become owner and operator of the vessel after its charter expired with another major ocean carrier. On Friday, December 5, the Port of New York and New Jersey announced that it hit an all-time record for monthly cargo volume in October 2014. During that month, the port handled 306,805 shipping containers, up 1 percent from the previous monthly record of 306,051 containers set in August 2013. The increase was driven by a hike in import-loaded containers. October 2014 stats also showed annual growth for cargo shipped on the port’s ExpressRail system, with 42,950 containers transported on rail, up 14.2 percent over October 2013. On Thursday, August 14, the Hanjin Baltimore made its inaugural port call to the Port of New York and New Jersey at Maher Terminals. The Hanjin Baltimore is a 7,471 TEU vessel built by Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd. at their South Korean shipyard in 2005. On Thursday, August 14, staff from The Port Authority’s Port Commerce Department presented a plaque to the captain of the APL Mexico City to commemorate her maiden voyage. Newly delivered from Daewoo’s Okpo shipyard in South Korea June 30th, the APL Mexico City docked at Global Terminals as part of the China East Coast (CEC) service.
