On Friday, July 21st, CMA-CGM of Marseille, France added the CMA-CGM Pelleas to the Ocean Alliance’s Loop 3 service calling at APM Terminals at the Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal in the Port of New York and New Jersey. The 9,900 teu ship is the largest vessel currently operated by CMA-CGM into the port. The Port Authority announced today that cargo volumes in the Port of New York and New Jersey are on record pace for 2017. The first six months of this year were 4.4 percent higher than the same period in 2015, when the previous record of 3,093,789 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) was established. Between January and June this year, the port handled 3,229,675 TEUs, compared to 3,041,287 TEUs handled in 2016. On Monday, July 17, Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) of Hong Kong and Salt Lake City, Utah sailed the largest container ship to date into the Port of New York and New Jersey. The OOCL Berlin sailed into Newark Bay to dock at Maher Terminals Berth 68.
