
Raising of the Bayonne Bridge One-Year Anniversary
On June 8th the Port of New York and New Jersey recognized the one-year anniversary of the raising of the Bayonne Bridge. The bridge now yields a navigational clearance of 215 feet resulting in the passage of larger ships, record cargo volume and economic growth for the Port. A year after completion, 107 vessels in excess of 9,500 TEUs (20-foot-long cargo containers, the shipping industry’s standardized measurement) have called on port terminals in Newark, Elizabeth and Bayonne, N.J. and in Staten Island.
