Autos Move Through the Port of New York and New Jersey in June

June was a big month for autos at the Port of New York and New Jersey. A total of 54,441 autos moved through the Port in June, representing a 34.3 percent increase over the previous year. Auto volume for the period of January through June 2019 also shows significant gains, rising by 6.4 percent when compared to the same period of 2018.

Total volume at the Port of New York and New Jersey remains at record-breaking levels. Total volume from January to June 2019 was 3,652,841 compared to 3,450,469 for the same period of 2018, a 4.4 percent increase. After five straight months of record-setting volume numbers, the Port had its first monthly drop in volume in 2019. With 611,027 TEUs (347,294 lifts), total volume in June showed a 2.3 percent decrease when compared to 625,366 TEUs (357,382 lifts) posted in June 2018.

Import loads in June totaled 301,708 TEUs (171,686 lifts) versus 310,481 TEUs (176,783 lifts) in June 2018, a 2.8 percent decrease. For the period of January through June 2019, imported loads at the Port of New York and New Jersey reached 1,846,062 TEUs (1,050,541 lifts), a 5 percent increase when compared to the 1,757,568 TEUs (1,005,725 lifts) posted during the same period of 2018.

Export loads for June totaled 122,663 TEUs (68,005 lifts) versus 129,505 TEUs (71,785 lifts) in June 2018, a 5.3 percent decrease in TEU volume. From January through June 2019, exported loads at the Port of New York and New Jersey reached 741,518 TEUs (410,428 lifts), a 2 percent decrease from the 756,389 TEUs (419,134 lifts) reached during the same period of 2018.
